There’s nothing quite like the energy of a live performance, surrounded by other music lovers. Whether it’s a big-name artist or a local band, there’s always something special about experiencing music in person.

Attending a concert or music festival can be a bit pricey, but there are ways to manage your finances and still enjoy the experience. 

One option is to look for free concerts or events in your area. Many cities offer free outdoor concerts during the summer months, which can be a great way to enjoy live music without breaking the bank.

If you do decide to splurge on a concert or festival ticket, there are ways to save money once you’re there. Consider bringing your own food and drinks instead of purchasing them at the event. Many venues allow you to bring in a small cooler or picnic basket, which can save you a lot of money on concessions.

Another way to manage your finances at a concert or festival is to set a budget for merchandise. It can be tempting to buy every t-shirt and souvenir you see, but those costs can add up quickly. Decide on a budget before you go and stick to it.

38. Have a spa day at home

Pamper yourself by having a spa day at home. Light some candles, put on relaxing music, and indulge in a face mask, bubble bath, and massage.

It’s a great way to relax and rejuvenate without having to leave the house!

39. Have a game night with friends

One of my favorite things to do on a day off is to have a game night. It’s a simple and fun way to spend time with people you care about, and it’s a great way to unwind and relax.

First, I like to invite a few friends over and make sure we have plenty of snacks and drinks. Then, we decide on what games we want to play. Some of my favorites are board games like Ticket to Ride but a good trivia game is always a winner too.

Sure, it can get a little competitive, but it’s all in good fun. You can even ask everyone to bring their favorite game and make it a game night potluck!

40. Visit a farmer’s market

Support local farmers and artisans by visiting a farmer’s market as something to do on your day off. Plus, you can find some amazing fresh produce, baked goods, and other goodies!

Try to bring a reusable tote bag or basket to carry your purchases. I also like to bring cash, as many vendors don’t accept credit cards. It’s also a good idea to bring a cooler or insulated bag if you plan to buy perishable items like meat or dairy products.

One of the things I love about farmer’s markets is the variety of produce available. You can find everything from heirloom tomatoes to all sorts of random, exotic fruits. I like to ask the vendors for recommendations on how to prepare their products, as they often have great ideas.

In addition to produce, many farmer’s markets also have vendors selling handmade crafts, jewelry, and other items. It’s a great place to find unique gifts or souvenirs.

41. Take a cooking class

Spice up your day off with a fun and productive cooking class. You’ll learn new skills, explore diverse cuisines, and boost your confidence in the kitchen. 

Plus, it’s a fantastic way to connect with fellow food enthusiasts and nurture your creativity. Many cooking schools and community centers even offer classes on a variety of cuisines and skill levels, so do some research to find one that interests you and get ready for a day of culinary adventure and delicious fun!

42. Go camping (or glamping)

Disconnect from technology and enjoy the great outdoors by going camping or glamping. Whether you prefer roughing it in a tent or staying in a luxurious cabin, it’s a fun way to recharge and connect with nature.

It also allows you to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. There’s something special about waking up to the sound of birds chirping and the smell of fresh pine. Plus, camping is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air.

When I have a day off, I love to explore new places. One of my favorite things to do is take a day trip to a nearby town. It’s a great way to get out of the house, see something new, and have an adventure without breaking the bank.

Try to look for places that are within a few hours’ drive and have something unique to offer, like a charming downtown area or a scenic park. It’s usually best to aim to arrive in the town mid-morning and spend a few hours exploring. 

A walk around the downtown area is often a good starting point, checking out the local shops and cafes. Then, I like to head to a nearby park or nature reserve for a hike or a picnic lunch.

Of course, mix this up if you want to visit any local museums or historical sites. This is a great way to learn more about the town’s history and culture. 

Before heading home, I like to stop at a local restaurant for dinner. This is a great way to try out some of the local cuisine and support a small business. 

48. Visit a historical site or monument

If you’re a history buff, why not spend your day off visiting a historical site or monument? Check out a local historic house, or a famous landmark. 

You’ll learn something new and gain a deeper appreciation for the past. Plus, it’s a great way to get some exercise and fresh air.

49. Meditate or practice mindfulness

When looking for what to do on your day off, you don’t have to pick something that’s entirely active. Instead, why not try something like meditating or practicing mindfulness? It’s a great way to clear my mind and find inner peace.

There are many different ways to meditate, but one option is to simply sit in a quiet place and focus on my breath. Try to clear your mind of all thoughts and just focus on the sensation of breathing in and out. It’s amazing how much this simple practice can help you feel more relaxed and centered.

Another way to practice mindfulness is to engage in a simple activity, such as taking a walk or doing some light stretching. 

While doing this activity, I try to focus all of my attention on the present moment and the sensations in my body. This helps me feel more connected to my surroundings and less distracted by my thoughts.

Overall, taking some time to meditate or practice mindfulness can be a great way to recharge and find some inner peace on your day off.

50. Visit a museum or art gallery

Too often, we don’t play the tourist in our home town as we sort of think that we can go another time.

Well, why leave it for another time when you can go now! For your day off, take the time to check out a local gallery or museum – bonus points if you find an exhibition by a local artist or one that’s traveling through your area so it’s only there for a short period of time.

These are often combined with workshops or other presentations, so you may be able to enjoy the art and learn something at the same time!
