That is, there are actually a bunch of legitimate work from home jobs hiring now, so you can start to work from home instantly.
Take a look at my picks for the best ones below!
Immediate hire work from home jobs
To clarify, when I talk about work from home jobs you can start immediately, I mean you basically have to create a profile on a relevant website and you’re good to go.
That said, in a few cases, you’ll have to wait for clients or other opportunities to come to you. However, that can start to happen literally from the moment you sign up for each type of work (and I’ve made sure to recommend websites that give you the best chance of that happening).
In others though, like essentially any type of freelancing work that’s out there, there are plenty of jobs on the table. This means that you’ll more or less be able to start working – and earning – straight away.
1. Online Focus Group Participant
A quick one-off job you might want to consider is to join an online paid focus group. It’s extremely valuable for companies to learn more about their target market. This is why they may pay you to take surveys or ask you to participate in a few activities to learn more about how their products and services operate.
In particular, focus group participants can be asked to review a variety of products and services. Some companies may only ask you for your opinion on current events that are taking place. Other companies may ask you to try out a few products and services before you participate in the focus group.
It’s important for you to make sure you are getting compensated well for your time. That is why you should only focus on the really legit options. For that, my top pick is easily Survey Junkie – particularly given that they will pay you up to $150 an hour for your answers. Simply sign up to see which of these are open to you right now.
QUICK TIP: Not only is Survey Junkie one of the highest paying survey sites out there, but their focus groups are incredibly popular – which is understandable, given you can earn up to $150 an hour doing this.
This is why it’s a good idea to select the option to be notified of new focus group opportunities by email – that way, you can grab one as soon as it’s available.
All you have to do is sign up for free here with Survey Junkie then select this option in your profile. That way, you can easily keep an eye out for the next high-paying focus group opportunity at absolutely no cost to you.
2. Proofreader
One of the first options you may want to consider is an online proofreading job, with plenty of websites willing to pay you to proofread work that has been written by other people. For example, there are a lot of companies that want to make sure their work is as professional as possible. This is why they may ask you to proofread some of the content that has been written by their employees.
Many of these websites vary in the types of content they may ask you to proofread. For example, some companies may ask you to proofread a few emails and messages they are sending to someone else. Alternatively, some companies may ask you to proofread a lot of content that contains heavy charging.
There are some situations where you may be paid a flat rate article you proofread while other companies may pay you per word. Either way, there’s good money to be made here.
Just ask Caitlin Pyle, who makes over $70,000 per year as a proofreader working from home.
And to help you do the same, Caitlin‘s created a free workshop to show you just how to get started as a proofreader. Her workshop (in which she’s taught over 12,000 students!) goes through:
- Why proofreading could be the perfect fit for you to make money

If you are someone who can type quickly, then you may want to consider getting a job as a transcriptionist. This is someone who takes the spoken word (like from an audio or video recording) and translates it into the written word.
There are countless situations where you might need to do exactly that. One of the most common applications is being a transcriptionist for doctors. For example, a lot of doctors prefer to dictate their notes instead of writing them. This saves them a lot of time. Then, you might be responsible for listening to what the doctor says and typing it into a document.
It should come as no surprise that you will need to type quickly in order to get a job as a transcriptionist. Depending on the industry in which you work, you may have to be able to interpret jargon as well, so attention to detail is going to be key.
You can take a look here at some of the best transcription jobs (no experience needed!) available. As you’ll see, they’re all remote jobs with an immediate hire option – well, as immediate as you can get, basically.
FYI: While you don’t necessarily need a certificate or anything in order to do this, it can definitely always help to boost your earnings. It’s for this reason that I strongly recommend you take a look at this FREE seven-day course on how to start making money as a transcriptionist from home.

And because there are lots of companies out there, you may be able to sign up for multiple options to earn as much money as possible. That way, you can make sure you have a steady stream of work coming in.
In order to work as a delivery person, you will probably have to have your own car; however, you may be able to get away with a bicycle depending on the company you decide to work for.

There are lots of platforms available, although our top pick for this is VIPKid. They pay up to $25 an hour although you will have to meet a few requirements before getting started.
This includes taking a test and providing proof of certain credentials. You should also keep in mind that you have to be a native English speaker to qualify with them. However, you can get hired quickly despite these steps as they’re renowned for being fast at getting people on board.

8. Freelancer
Depending on your skills, you may be able to work as a freelancer in a number of fields. For example, you may be someone who takes a look at information and compiles it in a spreadsheet. Or, you might be someone who is good with numbers, and someone may hire you to balance the books for them. As a freelancer, you can even get paid for your musical talents, in a voice over job, as a designer, for coding…and much more.
One of the best things about being a freelancer is that you set your rates, set your schedule, and then get paid for just about anything. As long as there is a demand for it, you can work as a freelancer doing that job. And with so much freelance work available, it’s easy to find immediate hire work from home jobs in this area.
There are a few websites you may want to check out if you are interested in becoming a freelancer. For example, you might want to take a look at Upwork, where there are jobs available doing just about anything.
Another site you may want to check at is Fiverr, which is a job board with a bunch of quick jobs that pay quickly and other jobs that don’t require customer interaction.
Depending on if you need a job ASAP for just a short period of time or not, this platform could end up being better for you than Upwork.
9. Website Tester
Testing websites for money may sound like something that’s only available for those with a background in tech, but actually the opposite is true.
Instead, companies are well aware of the need to have a strong presence on the internet. At the same time, they need to make sure these websites work for the average user. And that is where you can come in handy.
Of course, the vast majority of people visiting the website of a company are not going to have a strong technology background. Therefore, companies just want to see if you can navigate the website easily. They also want to make sure the website works – and you can get paid to show them exactly that.
10. Dog Walker
Are you someone who loves animals and would also love to get paid to walk? If so, you may be able to get a job as a dog walker.
As people work longer hours or begin to travel more again, the demand for this is definitely increasing. For example, some people may need someone to come over and let their dog out during the day, particularly if they work long hours.
There are other people who are looking to hire a dog walker when they go away on the weekend – possibly combined with a dog sitting job. In those cases, you might have to visit the house several times during the week to feed the dog, let the dog out, and give the dog attention.
One of the most popular applications you can use to become a dog walker is called Rover. This is an application where you will build your own profile, list your availability, and set your rates. Just keep in mind that the more information you provide, the better, especially if you need a job ASAP.
Then, you can get requests from people in the local area who are looking for someone to take care of their dogs. You might even be able to take care of multiple dogs at the same time to really boost your earnings
Take a closer look at Rover if you are interested in becoming a dog walker.
11. Pet Sitter
While dog sitting is probably the most common option, at the same time, there are lots of other pets as well. For example, cats need plenty of attention. Similar to dogs, people may be looking for someone who can take care of their cats during the day. They might also be looking for someone who can take care of their cat when they go on vacation.
And even though dogs and cats are the most common example, there are other animals that require attention as well. For instance, Rover also has a pet sitting section with some of the listed pets including lizards, rabbits, rodents, and even birds.
If you are comfortable taking care of all of these pets, you can expand your profile, showing people that you are capable of taking care of a variety of animals. And given most people tend to be more comfortable with cats and dogs, if you can expand to other animals, this could easily be a job that you can start working instantly given the lack of pet sitters for these.

12. Online Tutor
Do you have a specific area of expertise? If so, you may be able to get an online tutoring job.
There are countless subjects out there where people need assistance. One of the great parts of being an online tutor is that you can control the subjects in which you tutor. This could include things like history, foreign languages, chemistry, biology, math, physics, and more. No matter what subject you are an expert in, there is a good chance someone needs help.
And you can also be flexible in who you tutor. For example, if you are comfortable tutoring high school and middle school students, this can be your area of expertise. Alternatively, if you are someone who has graduate-level experience, then you may feel more comfortable working with college students and graduate students.
If you excel as an online tutor, you may even be able to start your own classes. That way, you can teach multiple people at the same time.
Rates will vary depending on your subject matter expertise, the age of the student and the complexity of the topic. Take a look at our article on how much to charge for tutoring to get an idea of where your rates should start.
13. Data Entry
If you are someone who has a lot of familiarity with spreadsheets, then you may want to get paid to type as a data entry professional.
There is a saying that data is everything in the business world. Businesses want to collect information on everything so they can figure out how they should be spending their time, money, and resources. And the only way they are going to be able to interpret this information is if it is recorded in a format that is easy to interpret, which is where you come in.
As a data entry professional, businesses are going to give you giant sets of information. Then, you are going to be responsible for translating that information into a data sheet that is easy for them to understand and analyze.
FYI: Upwork is a great starting point for finding work in this area. In addition, given the demand for great data entry professionals, this could easily be an immediate hire work from home job for you – with the added bonus that you can take on as much or as little work as you want.
14. Online Friend
Perhaps you are looking for a job that simply allows you to socialize with other people rather than some of the other jobs where you work alone? In that situation, you might want to consider getting paid to be an online friend.
This is exactly what it sounds like – in a completely platonic way (so don’t worry, this definitely counts as a legitimate work from home job hiring now). You are going to be responsible for meeting people online. Then, you are going to spend time hanging out with them.
Of course, the person you hang out with is going to compensate you for your time, so you need to make sure the experience is as enjoyable as possible. This could involve you suggesting activities that your online friend is going to enjoy. If you show that person a good time, they will probably contact you for future visits, helping you make more money.
Even though this is an area that is still relatively new, it is growing quickly. With so many people being forced to shelter in place, and other people working remotely, there is a significant dearth of social interaction in the current environment. That’s left people turning to the internet as a way to interact with others, giving you a great option if you need a job ASAP.
How can I work from home instantly?

Instead, more freelance-based roles are going to be the best if you need to be immediately hired for a work from home job.
Your first step should be to evaluate a few of the websites covered above. That way, you can learn more about the qualifications of these immediate start online jobs.
Then, you may need to fill out an application for these remote jobs with an immediate hire option. Even though the application timeline can vary, a lot of them are very quick. In fact, given the high demand for people to do this kind of work, you’ll often find yourself being approved within just a few days.
And once you are approved, you can get started!
How can I get hired quickly?
If you’re looking to be immediately hired in a work from home job (or even any job at all), there are some things you can do that can help you get hired quickly:
- Update your CV and cover letter. By ensuring these are up to date (and error-free), you’re giving yourself the best chance possible to stand out from the crowd.
- Ask someone to read over your application documents. Having some fresh eyes look at your CV, cover letter and any other documents you’re submitting can really help to catch anything you may have missed. And it’s much better for someone you trust to pick up a mistake than a potential employer.
- Reach out to your network. You’ll be surprised who knows someone who knows someone who’s hiring. In particular, this can be a great way to find a job that may not have been advertised yet, putting you at the front of the line.
- Find something temporary. If you need a job ASAP, your goal isn’t to find your dream job. Instead, the objective is to find any job. So make sure you branch out your search for something that will give you a pay check until something more suitable appears.
- Practice interview questions. Whether you practice with someone else or just in a mirror, running through your ideal answers for expected questions will make you appear much more polished when you do score an interview.
- Get your interview attire ready (or borrow it). You don’t necessarily need a suit for most interviews these days, but looking neat and tidy is a must. If you’re not sure that you have something in your wardrobe that works, borrow it from someone.
- Check for free online training opportunities. Sites like LinkedIn offer free training in a wide range of fields and having something recent like this on your CV could just show a potential employer how willing you are to keep developing your skills.
